This is an agreement between you and Haltee ("we", "us") governing your use of haltee.com and any related service (the "Platform"). We are registered in the United Kingdom, with our headquarters in London. By using the Platform you agree to these Terms; if you do not agree, please stop using it.
1. Eligibility
The Platform is for users aged 18 and over. A minor may use it only with the verified consent and direct supervision of a parent or guardian, where their local law permits this.
We do not knowingly serve industries subject to stricter regulatory regimes, such as healthcare or government data handling, and use of the Platform must not violate financial privacy law in your jurisdiction.
2. Registering an account
An account is not required to place an exchange, but it lets you track your order history and keep a referral code. If you register, you are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity under your account. The information you give us must be accurate, and you must keep it current.
We may rename or remove a username we consider inappropriate, and we may suspend or terminate an account whose registration information turns out to be false, inaccurate or incomplete.
3. Placing an exchange
You choose a floating or a fixed rate when you create an order.
- Floating rate. The rate applied is the one in effect when your deposit is processed, not the estimate shown when you created the order. It can move with the market between the two.
- Fixed rate. The rate is locked for a limited window, usually up to 15 minutes. If your deposit has not arrived by then, the rate may be recalculated.
A deposit needs between 3 and 50 network confirmations before we can act on it, depending on the coin and network, plus up to a further 10 minutes to complete processing. We run every day, from 09:00 to 23:59, and from 10:00 on Sundays.
If you send less than the order amount, we refund it after deducting a fee of 0.2% to 2% of the amount, depending on the circumstances. We may also ask you to split a large payment into several transactions, for reasons that can include transaction security, regulatory compliance, liquidity or a technical limit; failing to do so may delay, suspend or cancel your order. If the amount received differs from the order, we may return it to the address it came from.
4. Verifying the source of funds
Exchanges are screened for links to criminal activity, using information from our compliance partners, public sources, complaints from victims of fraud, and law enforcement requests. If a deposit appears connected to criminal activity, we may pause your order and ask you to explain where the funds came from. By using the Platform you agree to provide that explanation truthfully, completely and promptly if asked, and you take full responsibility for its accuracy.
If you refuse to answer, or the information you give confirms a link to criminal activity, we may freeze the funds and work with law enforcement to return them to the affected party. In rare cases, for instance where you cannot show where funds you received came from, or where you know the person who sent them to be implicated, we may ask you to verify your identity as an exception to our usual process.
5. Preventing fraud
Attempting to defraud or deceive us or another user, submitting false information to obtain a service, creating a fake account, impersonating someone else, or refusing to accept payment only from the account or wallet you registered are all treated as scamming. If we suspect it, we may freeze the funds involved and suspend your account while we investigate, and we reserve the right to pursue legal action.
You choose your own receiving wallet and are responsible for that choice; we act on the payment details you give us and are not responsible for a third-party wallet or platform that turns out to be fraudulent.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Scrape, harvest or systematically collect data from the Platform, or access it by bot, script or other automated means, without our written permission.
- Attempt to defraud or mislead us or other users, including phishing for account credentials, impersonating another person, or creating an account under false pretences.
- Circumvent, disable or otherwise interfere with a security feature, an access restriction, or the normal operation of the Platform, including by transmitting a virus, malware or disruptive traffic.
- Decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer the Platform's software, except where the law gives you that right regardless of this agreement.
- Harass, threaten or abuse us, our staff, or another user, or misuse our support channels, including by filing a false report.
- Use the Platform to compete with us, or for an unauthorised commercial or revenue-generating purpose.
7. Content you submit
The Platform does not generally invite you to post content, but where we do, such as a review, a support message or feedback, you keep ownership of it. We may use anything you submit as feedback about the Platform without owing you compensation, and by submitting a review you grant us a licence to display, reproduce and distribute it. We are not liable for what you say in either, and you are responsible for making sure it is lawful and, where relevant, that you genuinely used the service you are reviewing.
We may accept, reject or remove any review or submission at our discretion, and we do not endorse the views expressed in one by publishing it.
8. Intellectual property
The Platform, including its code, design, features and branding, belongs to us or to those who have licensed it to us, and is protected under UK and international law. You may view it and use it personally; you may not copy, redistribute or otherwise use it commercially without our written permission.
9. Suspending or ending your access
We may deny access to, suspend or terminate an account at any time and without notice, including for a breach of these Terms or of the law. If we do, you may not re-register under your own name, a false name, or on behalf of someone else. We may also change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Platform at any time; we are not liable for loss caused by downtime or a change we make, though we will not use that right to avoid an obligation we already owe you.
10. Liability
We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the Platform. Where we are liable, our total liability to you is capped at the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim arose. Nothing here limits a right that the law of your jurisdiction does not allow us to limit.
You agree to cover our reasonable costs, including legal fees, arising from a third-party claim caused by your breach of these Terms, your violation of someone else's rights, or a harmful act you commit against another user through the Platform. We will tell you about such a claim when we become aware of it, and may take over its defence at your expense.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why, and forms part of this agreement.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms; the date above shows when we last did. Continuing to use the Platform after a change means you accept it.
13. Governing law and contact
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you have a question, our Contact page has the ways to reach us.
